“Somewhere there’s someone who dreams of your smile, and finds in your presence that life is worthwhile. So when you are lonely, remember it’s true, somebody somewhere is thinking of you.”
There are days when my mind is alert and active – a never-ending stream of random thoughts, which swirl around my head like a violent tornado.
Other days my mind is exhausted from the day’s activities – slow in its response and only too happy to succumb to the peacefulness of a good night’s rest.
It’s during those times of random thoughts that I often find myself thinking of someone from my past – someone I’m no longer in communication with, but at one time was a large part of my life.
One of life’s many realities is that people travel in and out of our lives. While for some this is often distressing, for me I’ve learned to look at it much differently – to accept that people are there for a reason, whether it’s five minutes or five years.
And if that time together was filled with any kind of meaning, then you can rest assured that at some point (especially during the holidays) they’re probably thinking of you.
It’s easy for us to say, “why would anyone think about me”. But memories are often all we have sometimes to warm us on days when we’re cold and lonely; to remind us that we’re loved when we’re feeling unaccepted by a world filled with judgements.
Take solace in knowing that while relationships end for one reason or another, it’s not often possible to fully forget their impact.
Holidays are a time for joy and a reminder of what used to be. This year instead of looking on this reality with sadness, smile in the understanding that there’s someone out in this vast world of ours who’s thinking about you too.
There’s a psychological fact that’s been talked about for years now which says, “Did you know that when someone appears in your dreams, it’s because that person misses you.”
I don’t know if that’s true or not, but what an incredibly uplifting and comforting message to take with us as we journey through this life.
Never underestimate the impact (great or small) that you’ve left on someone else’s heart. Know that our actions touch the lives of others each and every day. It’s those actions which will be remembered even when we think there’s no one out there thinking about us.
