A lifetime isn’t forever – don’t wait for second chances

When it comes to deciding what to eat for breakfast or which outfit to wear to work, I find little difficulty committing to a choice.

After all, if you’re not happy with your selections you can easily change them the following day – with no consequences to speak of (except maybe landing on the “Worst Dressed” list at work).

But many choices in life aren’t that simple.

Take our recent decision to begin looking for a new home.

My wife and I have lived in our current side-hall colonial for 11 years now – where did the time go? And while we love our home and the improvements we’ve made over the years, we’ve grown tired of the overpopulation a suburban lifestyle can bring.

We both grew up in similar town environments, and when we purchased our first house believed our current location would be a suitable place to start our lives together – and it was!

But 11 years is a long time.

As you grow and mature you begin to more clearly understand what you truly want out of life, what’s important to you – and many times that isn’t always where you currently find yourself.

I’ve learned one very important lesson over the last few years – life is terribly unpredictable. And while we’d all like to think we have an infinite amount of time here on earth, you just never know what unforeseen circumstances will drastically alter your plans.

Sometimes you just need to take a leap of faith to bring a positive change into your life.

Yes, everything about buying and selling a house is scary, stressful and filled with unforeseen challenges.

But you know what? My wife and I have handled all that before when we knew nothing about home ownership, mortgages, repairs and all the other “stuff” that comes along with buying, paying and living in a new house.

But in order to bring your life to a better place, you need to take a chance and make a change. It’ll probably be uncomfortable in the beginning, but life is all about evolving and adapting – not staying stagnant simply because it’s easy.

Remember: “A lifetime isn’t forever, so take the first chance, don’t wait for the second one! Because sometimes, there aren’t second chances. And if it turns out to be a mistake? So what! This is life! A whole bunch of mistakes. But if you never get a second chance at something you didn’t take a first chance at – that’s true failure.” C. JoyBell C.
