My mornings typically involve some moderate exercising and a simple breakfast, before preparing myself for my 9 to 5 workday.
Some people enjoy starting their day watching morning news programs. But for me all they do is make me anxious – not really the way I want to start out a long day of work.
Today when I turned on the TV, one of those news programs was on – no doubt from a television station we were watching the previous night. In an effort to further educate myself about the goings-on in the world, I figured I’d take a few minutes to be an active viewer.
War and violence, uncontrollable wild fires, the possibility of another financial crisis – and that was just in the first five minutes!
I finally had to turn it off though it didn’t matter – the news headlines were already stuck in my head. While I’m not naïve to the unfortunate realities going on all around the world, first thing in the morning is not when I want to hear about them.
Make fun if you will, but what I’m usually watching while enjoying breakfast and my first cup of coffee is “I Love Lucy”.
This timeless classic never fails to entertain, and in my opinion is the perfect way to start out your morning. You can deal with reality when you get home – in the morning you need something positive, uplifting, and in this case, utterly hilarious to put yourself in the right frame of mind to begin your day. And more importantly, to pleasantly interact with the people in your environment.
Maybe if more of us did, there wouldn’t be so many cranky people to deal with in the morning.
Famed entertainer Bill Cosby once said: “Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive.”
