Election fraud – the tale of two ballots

Life & Living
“A vote is like a rifle: its usefulness depends upon the character of the user.”  - Theodore Roosevelt First, please save your hate mail. This post is in no way taking political sides in what I consider to be one of the most pathetic elections in American history. A subject making headlines of late is how the American election system is flawed. Many find such an accusation insulting and impossible in our technological advanced society. Truthfully, I never gave the subject much thought. That was until the other day. My coworker grew up in the state of Washington, and it was there where she first became a registered voter. About two years ago she moved to the state of Colorado, and went through the proper process of becoming a registered…

When I grow up – it’s more than just a job

Youth
One of the most challenging questions to ask yourself is, “What do I want to be when I grow up.” It’s not easily answered and often filled with more complexities than Google’s secretive algorithms for site rankings. After all, we’re talking about life – not just your life, but the lives of those who will ultimately be impacted by your decision both today and well into the future. It’s a hefty burden to bare, and a question which seems to pop up more frequently than one might assume. Jodi Weiss is a career strategist and author and had this to say on the subject: “What you don’t want to do, is waste your life. Wake up in your later years to realize that things you cared about most were not…

Disappointments should not overshadow being grateful

Generosity & Kindness
"Sometimes we feel that if everything isn't perfect, we cannot be grateful for anything. We easily fall into all-or-nothing thinking. When we do, we miss the sunrise and the other forms of goodness that surrounds us." - Anne Wilson Schaef Far too often, the plans we conceive in our head never fully materialize the way we hope and dream. This leads to disappointment rather than fulfillment, and soon what once was thought to be a good idea feels more like a mistake. It’s during these times when our behaviors drastically change. We’re frustrated and saddened and it’s often difficult to be grateful when all you see are a constant stream of disappointments. My wife and I moved to Colorado a little over two years ago now, and truthfully, everything hasn’t…

Negativity should not be the norm in life

Generosity & Kindness
I came across this story about negativity the other day and wanted to share it. One day a school teacher wrote the following on a chalkboard. 9x1=7 9x2=18 9x3=27 9x4=36 9x5=45 9x6=54 When he finished, he looked at his class and they began to laugh. When he asked them why, one student pointed out that the first equation he had written was wrong. The teacher responded by saying, “I wrote the first one wrong on purpose to show you something very important. This is how the world will treat you. You can see that I wrote five other RIGHT answers, but none of you gave me any recognition for that. You all laughed and criticized me for the one wrong thing that I did. The world will not always appreciate…

Jacob Hall taught us lessons even at a young age

Youth
When I was 6-years-old – a kindergarten student at Roosevelt Elementary School – the year was 1981. At that age, I still considered school a fun place – filled with discovery, imagination and hope for the future. It was a place in which I felt “safe” – protected both emotionally and physically by a staff who genuinely cared for each and every one of us. Whether in the confines of our classroom or the grassy fields of our playground, I never found myself worrying about the dangers, which no doubt were in existence even back then. I’m sure Jacob Hall was no different. Hall was the South Carolina boy who sadly passed away on Saturday after complications from being shot on his elementary school playground earlier in the week. His…
