“I have one life and one chance to make it count for something.” – Jimmy Carter
If there’s one thing humanity continually takes for granted, regardless of circumstance, it’s time. We naively believe there’s an endless reserve of sand in the hourglass, but the reality is time is not infinite – you need to make it count today.
So, the one thing humanity takes for granted is time, and the one thing we always say is there never seems to be enough of it.
I agree on that point. Between work, household chores, relationships and hobbies, it’s not often easy to find time in one’s schedule for all the things we need to do and want to do during any given week.
Something inevitably gets shunned and shortly thereafter we’re left feeling guilty for not devoting the proper time to make it count.
I once saw this inspirational plaque which read, “Time is a coin that you can spend only once. Use it, invest it and make it count.” – Unknown
As I said, regardless of circumstance, how wisely are you spending your time?
Forever doesn’t exist.
What’s wonderful about today could easily be gone tomorrow – that’s not meant to instill fear in you, that’s real life. Those we cherish in our lives, family and friends whose presence we couldn’t imagine living without, will one day cease to exist here on Earth.
What’s perhaps most unfortunate is that we’ve had plenty of time to show how much they’re valued, show how much they’re loved, show how much they’ve inspired us. But instead we’ve chosen to waste much of that time on what’s truly irrelevant and self-serving.
Jonathan Estrin once said, “The way we spend out time defines who we are.”
Your time is one of the greatest gifts you’ll ever give to another human being. Make it count each and every day, not when it’s too late to matter.
