In life never settle for less than you deserve

I recently came across this anonymous quote and wanted to share it with all of you:

“I’ve made mistakes in my life. I’ve let people take advantage of me and I’ve accepted way less than I deserve. But, I’ve learned from my bad choices and even though there are some things I can never get back and people who will never be sorry, I know better next time and I won’t settle for anything less than I deserve.”

I was struck most profoundly by the line – “I won’t settle for anything less than I deserve.”

Far too often we convince ourselves that we must accept our current circumstances – that there’s nothing more we should expect out of life. We grow complacent and secure in our environments, but are rarely ever truly happy or satisfied with the quality of our existence.

Growing up incredibly insecure and anxious myself, I can understand living a life in which you believe you simply don’t deserve any better. You allow people to take advantage and even abuse you to some degree, simply because you haven’t the courage to stand up and declare that “I won’t settle for anything less than I deserve.”

It’s a difficult journey to ultimately love and respect yourself to the point where you demand better treatment on all levels. But life is not an infinite ride.

You need to make the most of the time you’re given before that time is up.

  1. Hi Craig,

I can relate to your post the quote you found also touched me deeply.
I know from past experiences we hold back from situations, confrontations for a variety of reasons sometimes to keep harmony or not wanting to cause waves or the bigger being afraid of the outcome. But ultimately when you have had enough and you stand up for yourself, you realise why did I let this continue. If you do not respect and expect better for yourself no one will show you any. So never accept less than what you deserve. So true we need to make the most of our time here, life is sweet. Gail
