Few of us have the luxury of looking into the past with no regrets.
Making decisions is never easy – unless you’re deciding what to have for dinner and even that can be challenging at times. We always hope the choices we make will lead us to a lifetime of bliss, but few things ever go as planned.
Periodically I find myself wallowing in these regrets – wishing I had gone the other way when met with a fork in the road. It can be a thoroughly depressing time – wondering what might have been and how your life may have been different.
But then I’m reminded of a quote which is attributed to Carl Bard.
“Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”
As long as we’re living and breathing, there’s always an opportunity to change the ending to our story – to reshape the overall direction and finesse the rough spots until our regrets are no longer something we care about.
If the current chapter of your life isn’t providing you with some amount of joy remember this: you still have the ability to make a brand new ending. It may not always be comfortable or easy, but it’s certainly worth the effort.
