Blaming an 11-year-old for being raped is inexcusable

In a small Texas town, about 50 miles outside of Houston, 18 men (ranging in age from 14 to 27) were recently arrested for gang raping an 11-year-old girl last November. As is all too common in the headlines today, police officials weren’t made aware of the sexual assault until a graphic cell phone video began circulating online.

Remind me again why giving kids cell phones capable of doing anything more than talking is such a great idea?

Here’s what’s most disturbing about this story – there are actually residents who blame the girl and her parents for being raped. Some have said she hung out with kids who were older than she was, that she wore clothes and makeup which made her look much older.

Come on already. You dress up any eleven year old girl and she might look 12 or even 13 maybe, but definitely not old enough to pass for a legal adult.

Regardless of how old the little girl was, no woman deserves to be raped by over a dozen young men, who then post the disgusting and degrading act online for millions of pathetic losers to watch.

It’s a parent’s responsibility, yes a PARENT’S responsibility, to educate their children about sex, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and the list goes on and on. But its also their responsibly to instill in them humanity, boundaries and respect for another human being’s life.

Believe it or not, they won’t learn that anywhere else and if there’s anyone to blame for the vicious attack on an 11-year-old girl, it’s the parents of the young men who obviously didn’t teach them anything.
