In today’s materialistic society, few will ever understand the importance of giving your time to someone in need. To take a moment out of your busy schedule to interact with someone who will genuinely benefit from your tender contact and unconditional love.
The more I journey through life, the more I understand that many times that’s really all a person needs in life – a reminder that someone cares and is there for them regardless of circumstance or situation.
The gift of your time costs nothing, but its value is infinite to both parties involved.
I’m not naïve to the business we all feel in society today – the pressures of raising a family, earning a living and maintaining a home can be exhausting at the end of any given day. But that should never serve as an excuse for ones inability to make time for someone beyond their own necessities.
Everyone needs human interaction to alleviate loneliness, provide encouragement and support or simply to offer an ear to listen and a smile to say everything will be okay.
Is that really too much for anyone to ask and more than we can deliver?
There are 168 hours in a 7 day week – surely we can all find a few hours during that period of time to provide the gift of ourselves, unselfishly, to someone who needs it.
I’m not sure what it says about a person when they can simply go about their lives without giving something back to those they cherish. Success comes in many forms. But none is greater than the impression we leave upon the hearts and minds of those whose lives we’ve touched – by giving nothing more than our time, our patience and our love.
For as Charles Dickens once remarked, “No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
