A life worth living for doesn’t always require something grand, it just requires a little hope. Case in point.
Some of you might be familiar with the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway.
If not, Home & Garden Television is giving away a prize package which includes a brand new home (fully furnished), cash and a car to one lucky winner.
My wife is determined.
Beyond researching the homes location and travel times from popular destinations, she’s educated herself on the contest rules and regulations – reading the fine print that most entrants probably never even look at. She diligently enters the contest each and every morning without fail – talk about determination.
And while she understands that our chance of winning this over-the-top prize is slim at best, she always says, “Well someone’s going to win!” I guess she has a point here – our chances are just as good as everyone else who’s entering daily.
But what my wife truly has is something more than determination – something that so many of us have abandoned in our own lives. Something free to practice, yet rarely ever used. I’m talking about hope, which makes life worth living for.
Harvey Milk once said that “The important thing is not that we can live on hope alone, but that life is not worth living without it.”
While our dreams may sometimes seem out of reach, does that mean they’re not worth hoping for? So often we dismiss something as being simply impossible, rather than hoping for a positive outcome – rather than believing that things have just as much of a chance of being triumphant as they do failing.
Life can be a pretty sad place to occupy if we’re always so pessimistic about its outcome.
So take this time to examine all the nay saying you do, and remember a little hope can go a long way to making life worth living for.
