Greetings, and welcome to the blog The View from Here!

A friend of mine recently asked why I hadn’t started a blog, especially given the fact that I always seem to have so much to say. After all, over the last five years I’ve had the great pleasure of writing a weekly editorial column called The View from Here, which covered everything from life, to politics, to love and everything else in between. I guess I can understand then why a blog might be a worthwhile proposition.

But admittedly I wasn’t sure a blog was right for me. For starters, I didn’t really know what a blog was, let alone if anyone would want to read me ranting and raving about whatever came to mind – a reality that often drives my wife crazy as I’m rarely at a loss for words. I suppose that does make me a perfect candidate for the blogosphere, doesn’t it?

Anatole France once said that “All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.”

Change is never easy – I myself try to shy away from it as often as possible. But as I’ve discovered over the last few years, change can be a good thing – a very good thing in fact. And while my days as a regular columnist have unfortunately ended (for now) I’m discovering an entirely new medium exists for a chatterbox like me.

I’m not an English major or even a journalist. I’m just a 35-year-old graphic designer by day, who often tears up during sappy movies, loves pizza to a fault and cringes when I hear the words “man caves” uttered.

But seriously my writing on The View from Here is filled with honesty and truth, not pretense. It’s inspiring, heartwarming and thought provoking in a world so filled with materialism, stereotypes and biases towards each other.

Understand that I would never presume my readers fully agree with my views as they’re expressed here. But what I do hope will happen is they will inspire you to think about something you might not have thought about before. To learn a new way of looking at things and maybe even a little bit more about yourself. After all, “Growth is the only evidence of life.”  – John Henry Newman

While some posts on The View from Here will be downright funny or filled with enormous sentiment, others will pull from the headlines and truly make you wonder about the state of the world we live in. Regardless of the subject matter, I ask you to come along on this new journey as I evolve from columnist to blogger.
